Intrusion: When used vegetable oil falls into the wrong hands
The used cooking oil collection sector is one of the most affected by professional intrusion. The still recent legislation and the lack of administrative bodies to detect and enforce these laws means that many take advantage to make a little extra money at the cost of public health.
For them, it's as simple as visiting several catering businesses with industrial kitchens and offering their service for free, as many accept the offer, either due to ignorance of the legislation or simply out of convenience, falling into the trap of these illegal networks (that is, when it’s not disposed of down the drain). It’s important to note that these collections are often carried out inefficiently, unsanitarily, and without the necessary controls or containers. This is in stark contrast to what we do at Reusa.
Furthermore, their final goal is not to recycle the oil itself but to reuse it in illegal oil networks, where it is “cleaned” to be re-bottled and sold, leading to potential problems for the consumer.
For all these reasons, strict controls are needed to detect this activity, as otherwise, it could pose a serious public health problem.
To put a stop to this activity, there are important regulations set by the Administration that we strictly comply with at Reusa Mallorca:
