Efficient and environmentally friendly waste vegetable oil collection processes

Date: 2024-10-06

Let’s start with the fact that just one liter of used vegetable oil can contaminate up to one thousand liters of water, which represents the amount of water an average person consumes in a year. Taking this shocking fact into account, and considering that the main engine of the island is tourism driven by our spectacular beaches and crystal-clear coves, we can get an idea of how important it is for Mallorca to have strict control over the recycling processes of this product and to know its traceability at all times.

Reusa contributes to the sustainable tourism of Mallorca and its environment by collecting, storing, and treating used vegetable oils from hotel chains, catering businesses, and other entities on the island that use large quantities of vegetable oil in their kitchens. Used vegetable oil is one of the most polluting agents at all levels, as it contaminates water, soil, and even air. Therefore, the goal is to raise awareness among different actors (producing companies, hotels, and restaurants) to get them involved in the proper removal of used oil based on their needs.

A clear example of this is Oli Caimari, a local producer to whom we thank for the excellent management of all their product processes and their full involvement in ensuring that they follow a sustainable cycle. We believe it is crucial for oil producers to be the first to communicate to their customers how to properly dispose of used vegetable oil in order to create a fully sustainable and environmentally friendly cycle.
